about us

The Weston Philharmonic Society, founded in 1997, is the pre-eminent arts and cultural organization in Weston. The Society is a volunteer group that is dedicated to enriching our community through arts and culture. As part of the commitment to our charitable mission, 100% of all funds raised are used to support efforts to bring music education programs to Weston schools and diverse musical experiences and projects to our members and the community at large.

In cooperation with the City of Weston and the Arts Council of Weston, the WPS sponsors and presents the Signature Concert Series with major regional orchestras at the Cypress Bay Auditorium. As part of our major fundraising events, the Winter and Spring Galas, we have also presented fine music programs. In 2006, we initiated a cooperative program with the Broward County Library’s Weston Branch on Bonaventure Boulevard to offer free concerts in their hall. As major benefactors of the Florida Youth Orchestra, we are pleased to sponsor a Holiday Concert in December at the Weston Hills CC, open to the public at no charge.

The WPS sponsors a number of productions specifically targeting the youth of Weston, including the Jack O' Lantern Jamboree and the In Schools Music Program. The Jack O' Lantern Jamboree is a fun-filled symphony performance, which families may attend dressed in their Halloween costumes.  The Symphony of the Americas also dresses in costume while performing eerie classical music.  Families receive a handout to accompany the Conductor’s narratives about the music and composers.  Tickets are sold by Weston grade school PTOs, the Community Bank of Broward and the Music Education Center.  All proceeds of tickets sold by the PTOs are retained by the PTO for their school's use.

As a benefit of membership, we are pleased to present a fall and spring musical salon, for members only and their guests and potential members at no charge. Membership, in addition to supporting the cultural activities of the Society, also provides numerous discount s to local businesses and restaurants with presentation of the membership card.

In addition, the Society has awarded several monetary scholarships to high school seniors who plan to pursue music as their career and has donated musical instruments to the Cypress Bay High School Band program.

Through various fundraising efforts and with the help of generous corporate and individual sponsors and members, we are making a difference in the quality of life for Weston residents of all ages.
